nature vitalizes

2010 June 8

fellow questers…

an article entitled ‘vitalizing effects of being outdoors’ in the journal of environmental psychology (june 2010) concludes nature vitalizes…

people feel better when they regularly trade in their artificial boxes.. their house… office cubicle…. car (i.e., moving box)… for nature… the authors concluded…

i know… i know… for you in touch with your wild self… this is a ‘duh’ moment… but let me explain how we came to this point…

a cognitive quirk in western thought makes this possible… it’s the subject/object split…

the subject/object split suggests we are divided from the source that sustains us..

the ‘i’ in us…the ego… in effect… can discern everything by using fancy measurements and tools of scientific proof…

this is the ‘objective’ world… the world of truth… this way of knowing has been deified for the past 500 years…

the ’subjective’ concerns individual experience… perceptions… feelings… a way of knowing we have lost immense faith in… emerson would be disappointed…

over the years… i have become more comfortable in accepting my personal experience as being as real as exteriorized truths…

when i trek black rock desert… i am traveling truth.. a truth born out of experience… a truth born out of being with the unknown… a truth born out of clubbing with the mystery…

when i guide seekers on ‘wild self’ quests…i don’t need a meter to assess how moved  they are… why limit human experience to today’s interpretive categories…

at the wild self…. we experience nature and self as a whole… as stephen foster at the school of lost borders says… us split from nature is the ‘big lie’….

when we call the bluff of the cultural lie… we learn how to trust the wild self within again…

let’s be in touch with personal experience just as much as we are with today’s laboratory experiments…

for the wild,

gino
