taking walks on the wildside

2010 March 15

fellow questers..

when i look at urban life in the future… i have visions of more and more people taking walks on the wild side… not just on weekends but during weekdays… as a ritual… just like picking up a cup of coffee in the morning…

all we have is our time so as the institutions that govern existential time and space slowly falter… people will start to re-evaluate… re-think how they spend time and what they receive for their time…

we are moving into a period of time were more and more people will take back their time… time is all we have… we trade time and receive something in return…

the metric for assessing my time is the extent to which i feel alive, everyday… i want to exist more than just on a physical plane… more than to simply trade my time in for money… and trade money in for goods and services…

there is so much more in the experiential realm to trade my time for… following this fancy feels most pressing…

i find it naturally attractive to engage san francisco’s urban/wild interfaces… just as i eat and drink to sustain myself.. i receive a spiritual surge by journeying into san francisco’s outdoor/natural environment… sometimes it is short… just a few minutes yet i always feel better upon my return…

funny how numerous studies are coming out about how taking nature walks are beneficial… these studies are merely a byproduct of a culture that spends over 90% of their time indoors… actually… i think it’s 92%.. but who’s counting… it’s too much… that’s all we need to know…

in the spirit of nature walks… i enclose a link to a new york times article of a san francisco resident who journeys into the city’s urban/wildlife interface… specifically… twin peeks…
