personal expression bumps into threshold

2010 February 26

fellow questers…

i speak much about journey thresholds… the fine line between stuck in the known versus drifting into the unknown and onto journeying.. much holds us back… fear… uncertainty… unpreparedness..

while i help questers to go beyond threshold issues and travel their ‘wild self’ paths… i also have thresholds to cross.. especially as a creator… writingfilmmakingpublic speaking… mountain biking (yes, this counts… untraditional… but it’s a form of expression)…

one of the biggest thresholds as a creator… especially expressions created for public consumption… like the movie i directed called mismo… is that you can be diligent about your creation… doing all you need to do to manifest it… writing scripts… putting crews together… auditioning actors.. doing production (or production doing you)… editing endlessly… managing musicians… negotiating copyright issues… and yet it languishes because the machinery of distribution won’t pick it up…

my film partners and i have spent over two years making mismo yet so much of the process now is reduced to a ten second pitch to a gatekeeper… the holders of golden keys.. until you have it… you feel locked out…

fortunately… i’m teamed up with a tireless producer… lorraine flett… who constantly stokes the machine… looking for ways to pierce institutional armor…

meanwhile… i’ve learned while pushing the envelope… it’s important to hand over the results to a larger mystery… otherwise… it is easy to get locked into societal self’s conception of success… which is a quick way to strike a blow to the ‘wild self’…

with that said… i thought you’d appreciate the constructive cultural commentary on mismo’s fate in the midst of the machine…

alive,

gino

From what I have seen of the trailer I think Mismo deserves a much wider audience. Hopefully that still will happen.
